Statement of Purpose

Art is a reflection of Life.Photo of the Artist A possible definition of an artist is a person whose life is a reflection of Art. I became an artist to try and alleviate some of mankind’s suffering. For me, art is an outlet for new, creative ideas that the human race needs to progress and develop. I believe the creative instinct is a guiding principle for the evolutionary process. New problems require new solutions. Ideally, Art and artists analyze the problems of man, and produce the solutions to those problems.

I realized fairly early that much of mankind’s suffering is psychological rather than physical. I thought that in order to alleviate psychological suffering you have to change the way people think. In order to change the way people think you have to reveal to them the problem with the way they think, and offer a better alternative to the old thinking. This is what I try to do with my art.

In order to do this, I have tried to learn everything about people, and experience as much as possible. Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny. This means that the whole evolution of the human race is reflected and repeated in the development of each individual. To study by own development through art, and other means, helps me understand human evolution, and how other individuals develop, or don’t. We must consider the meaning of life in order to hope to find any meaning to Art.

Prometheus, for me, was the first artist, and the symbol for the artist’s spirit. He sacrificed all in order to bring mankind the gift of fire. Fire is enlightenment. It’s the function of artists and Art to enlighten the human race, to travel to the depths of the psyche to find the light necessary for mankind to progress to the next stage of development. My life has been spent in the depths searching for the spark that we need to evolve to a more highly developed existence. My hope is that my art will be a gift to mankind that can, in some way, lead it out of the darkness and into the light. My work is to make sure that happens.
